advertisement
The Connecticut Department of Transportation recently awarded a contract to Kawasaki Rail Car Inc. to inspect and refurbish 33 passenger-rail cars. The contract could total up to $12 million.
In October 2004, the state purchased the cars from Virginia Railway Express for $13.4 million.
Kawasaki will inspect, test and service brakes on each car, as well as modify various systems and clean the vehicles. In addition, the company will repaint the cars to match the Connecticut commuter-rail system color scheme.
Kawasaki is expected to begin working on the cars in spring and complete the work in 2007.
