The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) received a $17.4 million grant from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) for construction of a new rail station on the Hartford Line in Windsor Locks, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont announced last week.
The $64.9 million station will be part of a transit-oriented development project adjacent to an apartment complex and a mixed-used redevelopment site.
The grant was provided under FRA’s Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements program. The remainder of the project cost will be provided by state bond funding, Lamont said.
In addition to the new station, CTDOT will make improvements to grade crossings, track and signals, as well as perform Amtrak rail yard work near the station site.
The town of Windsor Locks previously received a $321,949 Community Connectivity grant from CTDOT to improve pedestrian connections to the future station and allow last-mile connections.
