Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy late last week marked the completion of a new platform at the Shore Line East station in Branford, Conn.

The new platform features an aerial pedestrian walkway, which includes elevators, stairs and ADA-compliant accessibility, according to a news release from Malloy's office.

Crews also installed a new train approach messaging system to alert riders on the platform of an oncoming train.

Workers constructed a bicycle parking area and added a new canopy, parking spaces and other amenities.

"Shore Line East has proven to be an important link in our commuter-rail network, and improvements like these make it more enticing for commuters to get out of their cars and onto the train," Malloy said.

Trains are scheduled to begin serving the new platform on Nov. 5.

The Shore Line East provides service between New Haven and New London, Conn.
