Yesterday, GO Transit and province of Ontario officials marked the start of construction of the new Allandale Waterfront GO Station, which is part of a plan to expand access to GO Transit’s service.
Located just south of the waterfront in Barrie, Ontario, the station will be built on the north side of the GO Barrie Line on the existing north track. Construction is slated for completion by year’s end.
The $3.5 million (in Canadian dollars) project is being funded through the $500 million GO Transit Improvement Program.
“Our government’s investment in the Allandale Station will increase public transit use, reduce gridlock and improve air quality,” said Patrick Brown, member of Parliament for Barrie, in a prepared statement.
