Construction under way on second Northstar Corridor station
advertisement
The Northstar Corridor Development Authority recently broke ground on the second of four suburban stations planned for the 40-mile Minneapolis-to-Big Lake, Minn., commuter-rail line. Late last month, the agency began to build the Coon Rapids Station; now, construction has begun on Big Lake Station.
Featuring a 518-space parking lot, the Big Lake Station also will include on-demand heating in covered and enclosed platform shelters, bicycle lockers, ADA-compliant platforms and security cameras.
Meanwhile, construction is well under way at the Northstar Vehicle Maintenance Facility located on the east side of the Big Lake Station site. The two-story service and repair building will be used to store and repair rolling stock once the Northstar Corridor opens in 2009.
