Contractor proposals unveiled for Dulles Corridor Metrorail's second phase

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority has opened contractor proposals for Phase 2 of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project, the authority announced.

The authority received and publicly read five pre-qualified bids from contractor teams seeking to build the major portion of the second phase of the Silver Line.

Phase 2 involves an 11.4-mile segment of the Silver Line, which will feature six stations and run from Reston, Va., through Washington Dulles International Airport and into Ashburn in eastern Loudoun County, Va. An award of the second phase contract will occur after the proposals are validated, authority officials said in a press release.

The bids are "a significant step toward the selection for the design-build contractor for Phase 2," said Pat Nowakowski, executive director of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail project. "It moves us even closer to completing one of the nation's major public transportation projects."

The teams and their price proposals are: Bechtel Transit Partners, $1,191,978,777; Capital Rail Constructors, $1,177,777,000; Dulles APC Railbuilders, $1,285,000,000; Dulles Metrorail Connectors, $1,325,470,000; and Silver Line Constructors, $1,378,646,479.

The contract is the largest of three design-build packages for the second phase, and represents about half of Phase 2 work, authority officials said.
