Crosslinx signs $9.1 billion contract for Eglinton Crosstown light-rail line

Metrolinx, Infrastructure Ontario and Crosslinx Transit Solutions yesterday signed a $9.1 billion construction and maintenance contract (in Canadian dollars) to complete the Eglinton Crosstown light-rail transit (LRT) project in Toronto.

Crosslinx was named the preferred bidder for the project in early June. Its winning proposal commits the consortium to design, construct and finance the transit system, its 25 stations/stops, track work, signaling, communications and other required infrastructure.

The contract also requires Crosslinx to maintain the system for 30 years, including lifecycle repair and renewal of building and system components, according to a press release issued by Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario.

"This is another important milestone in the delivery of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT project," said Metrolinx President and Chief Executive Officer Bruce McCuaig. "We are now ready to move into the next phase of the project to build the Crosstown stations and stops, track and signal infrastructure and maintenance and storage facility to support the line."

Most of the construction work is slated for completion in early 2021. Commissioning and training will be carried out through that year to meet the in-service date.

The Crosstown line will run across Eglinton Avenue between Mount Dennis and Kennedy Station. The nearly 12-mile corridor will include a 6.2-mile underground section between Keele Street and Laird Drive.

Under separate contracts, tunnels and utility work began in 2011.
