Cubic Corp. expands security options on contactless "smart" cards

advertisement

On Oct. 23, Cubic Corp. launched CUB123, a contactless microchip with 32KB of memory that provides a platform for the company to add biometric identification to its contactless "smart" cards.

Cards using CUB123 could quickly scan and identify fingerprints and facial characteristics, and would be suitable for access-control applications, according to a prepared statement.

San Diego, LandGrant Development and Cubic already are discussing access control for The Bridge at Las Americas, a proposed foot bridge connecting Tijuana, Mexico, with San Ysidro, Calif.

The proposed system would use fingerprint, facial recognition or iris scanning technology to grant or deny cardholders bridge access based on whether the information imprinted on the card matched characteristics of the individual seeking access.
