Cubic concludes deliveries for Millennium Line
advertisement
TransLink recently took final delivery of an intermodal fare payment system for its SkyTrain "Millennium Line," which opened Aug. 31 in Vancouver, British Columbia.
The system, part of an $18 million contract TransLink awarded Cubic Transportation Systems Inc. in April 2001, includes advanced touchscreen ticket vending machines that issue (in six languages) a common magnetic farecard usable across the region’s rail, bus and ferry services.
The Millennium Line is an extension of TransLink’s SkyTrain light-rail system, which includes its Expo Line. In early fall, Cubic plans to begin installing additional ticketing machines equipped with Cubic’s Tri-Reader™ technology in the Expo Line’s 21 stations.
Tri-Reader, which can process information from three types of Smart Cards, would enable TransLink someday to switch from magnetic strips to Smart Cards in the future.
