Dallas Area Rapid Transit late last week was awarded a $25 million Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to fund construction of about 5.2 miles of shared-use trail along the Silver Line, U.S. Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas) announced.

The trail and various safety features will be built from Meandering Way in Dallas to Shiloh Road in Plano and will directly connect to several Silver Line rail station platforms, officials from Allred’s office said in a press release. The grant was supported by the North Central Texas Council of Governments, they added.

The 26-mile Silver Line will extend from the north side of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport to Plano, traversing seven cities — Grapevine, Coppell, Dallas, Carrollton, Addison, Richardson and Plano, according to NBC Dallas-Fort Worth. Passenger-rail service is expected to begin in 2025 or 2026.
