Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) won the American Public Transportation Association's (APTA) 2019 Innovation Award for its GoPass mobile ticketing application.
The Innovation Award recognizes a public transit agency that demonstrates innovative concepts in public transportation. Entries this year needed to show how the transit system demonstrated excellence between 2016 and 2018, DART officials said in a press release.
GoPass was the first public transit mobile ticketing app in the nation that involved multiple agencies and different types of transportation by combining efforts between DART Trinity Metro and the Denton County Transportation Authority, they said.
The app also features trip planning, ride-hailing service integration, fare capping and cash-to-mobile payment options.
Meanwhile, APTA has appointed DART Secretary Michele Wong Krause to its executive committee.
Wong Krause was appointed to DART's board in 2014 and has served as chair of the capital construction oversight committee; vice chair of the administrative committee; and a member of the audit, budget and finance, and operations, safety and security committees.
She previously served as an associate municipal judge for the city of Dallas and is currently running a private law practice.
