Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) recently was named the 2011 Transportation Owner of the Year by the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA).
DBIA recognized DART for "making significant contributions in advancing awareness, understanding and use of the design-build project delivery method in the transportation sector with 47 percent of its projects, by contract value, performed under the practice" during the past three years, DART officials said in a prepared statement.
DART used the design-build method for the Orange and Blue light-rail lines in Irving and Rowlett, Texas. DART also is using design-build for another Orange Line project.
