Next month, Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) will hold a series of public hearings to discuss a proposed fare increase and system-wide service changes, the majority of which are scheduled to take effect by Sept. 14.

The agency has proposed raising single-ride tickets from $1.50 to $2; day passes, from $3 to $4; weekly passes, from $15 to $20; monthly passes, from $50 to $65; and annual passes, from $500 to $600.

On the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) commuter-rail system, base fares would rise from $1.50 to $2.50 in September, then go up to $3.50 in October 2010.

Day passes would increase from $3 to $5 in September, and from $5 to $7 in October 2010; weekly passes would rise from $15 to $25 in September, and from $25 to $35 in October 2010; monthly passes would go up from $50 to $75 in September, and from $75 to $100 in October 2010; and annual passes would increase from $500 to $750 in September, and from $750 to $1,000 in October 2010. Commuter-rail fares will cost more based on travel zones.

In addition, DART plans to open the first segment of its 28-mile Green Line, serving Victory, West End, Akard, St. Paul, Pearl, Deep Elum, Baylor University Medical Center, Fair Park and MLK stations. The agency also would modify TRE service so all commuter-rail trains serve Victory Station.
