DART to use stimulus funds to advance Orange Line project
advertisement
Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is set to receive more than $61 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds, the majority of which will be used to fund a portion of the design and construction for the Orange Line's first two sections.
The 9.3-mile light-rail line will run from Bachman Station on the Green Line to Belt Line Road and Valley View Lane on DFW Airport property. DART already has awarded a design-build contract to a Kiewit/Stacy and Witbeck/Reyes/Parsons joint venture.
Scheduled to be complete in December 2011, the first phase will run from Bachman Station to the Las Colinas Urban Center. The project's second phase will run from Las Colinas to Belt Line and open one year later. Still in the planning stage, the final segment from Belt Line to the DFW Airport terminals is scheduled to open in December 2013.
DART expects to receive the stimulus funds this spring, following a final review.
