The Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) later this month will provide free rides on a portion of its A-train commuter-rail line in North Texas. Beginning Aug. 28, rides between the Downtown Denton Transit Center and the MedPark Station will not require fares. Trips between the Hebron Station and Trinity Mills Station also will be free. The promotion is part of DCTA's ongoing strategic efforts to encourage people to use the service, agency officials said in a press release.Passengers riding to the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Green Line light-rail route from DCTA's Hebron Station can do so at no cost. However, passengers transferring to the light-rail line still need to purchase DART's local fare.Agency officials didn't say in the release how long the promotion would run. The 21-mile A-train system launched in June 2011 to connect Denton and Dallas counties.
