DRPA, PATCO plan light-rail line in southern New Jersey

The Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) and the Port Authority Transit Corp. (PATCO) have released the results of a study focused on the mass transit needs for southern New Jersey, with a recommendation for a light-rail line along the Conrail right of way from Glassboro to Camden.
As a result of the findings, the DRPA has moved forward with the next phase of project development: the environmental review and preparation of the environmental impact statement.
The new light-rail line would connect with PATCO and New Jersey Transit at Camden’s Broadway Station, creating a transportation hub that would provide direct connections for commuters going to Trenton, Lindenwold or Glassboro, N.J., or Philadelphia.
“This is the largest transit project ever planned to serve Camden and Gloucester counties and something that has been needed and anticipated by South Jersey residents for a long time,” said DRPA Vice Chair Jeff Nash.
