Last week, Regional Transportation District of Denver (RTD) board members and General Manager Phil Washington visited the White House and met with Adolfo Carrión, director of Urban Affairs for the White House Office of Urban Policy.
The RTD contingent stressed the economic, mobility and sustainability benefits of the FasTracks program, which calls for building 122 miles of commuter- and light-rail lines and 18 miles of buss rapid-transit lines, redeveloping Denver’s Union Station and adding 21,000 new parking spaces.
While in Washington, D.C., the group also met with Federal Transit Administrator Peter Rogoff. Earlier this year, Rogoff informed RTD the FasTracks corridors would receive $120 million in the President’s fiscal-year 2011 budget.
