Denver RTD to begin preliminary engineering for East, Gold lines

Earlier this month, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced it intends to approve the Regional Transportation District of Denver's (RTD) request to enter preliminary engineering for the East Corridor ad Gold Line projects.
The recommendation indicates the projects are strong candidates to receive New Starts funding and that the FTA has received sufficient project justification and local financial commitment information from RTD, according to the agency. RTD expects to receive a total of $1 billion in federal funds for the two electric commuter-rail lines.
The 22.7-mile East Corridor would run between Denver Union Station and Denver International Airport. The 10.8-mile Gold Line would operate between Denver Union Station and Ward Road, serving northwest Denver, Adams County, Arvada and Wheat Ridge.
The corridors are part of RTD's FasTracks program, a 12-year transit expansion plan that calls for building six new rail corridors, extending three existing rail lines and redeveloping Denver Union Station by 2017.
