The Denver Regional Transportation District (RTD) earlier this week announced it will launch an income-based fare discount program on July 29.

The LiVE Program will provide a 40 percent discount to qualifying riders whose household income is at or below 185 percent of the federal poverty level; are between 20 and 64 years old; and live within the RTD district, RTD officials said in a press release.

“Until now, individuals had to work through some government agencies and nonprofit organizations to obtain an income-based discount,” RTD General Manager and Chief Executive Office Dave Genova said.

Riders can apply for an eligibility card directly through the state of Colorado’s benefits site, PEAK. Once approved, applicants can use the LiVE card with a MyRide fare card, mobile ticket or a ticket issued by a nonprofit agency.

To create the discounted fare program, RTD partnered with Colorado’s Office of Information Technology, Denver Human Services and Deloitte.
