Denver's RTD to host public hearings as it mulls fare policy changes

The Regional Transportation District of Denver (RTD) yesterday announced plans to host 16 public hearings between March 23 and April 8 to solicit feedback on proposed fare policy changes.

The meetings are part of an ongoing attempt to simplify the system's current fare policies before opening a rail line to Denver International Airport and four other transit lines.

The agency is considering implementing new all-day passes that would allow riders to pay a flat rate of $5.20 to ride any mode of transportation throughout the day, among other fare changes. Implementing a "pay-per-boarding" system in which riders pay every time they board a vehicle also ranks among considered fare changes.

The second of two rounds of public hearings, the upcoming meetings will give further explanations of staff recommendations and give the public additional opportunities to share feedback on proposals. During the first round of meetings, system riders, stakeholders and other members of the public submitted input on various fare ideas.
