Yesterday, the Detroit City Council unanimously approved M-1 RAIL's operating and construction agreements, enabling the agency to begin building the 3.3-mile modern streetcar system in the coming weeks. In the meantime, M-1 RAIL officials plan to launch a public information campaign to prepare residents, businesses and patrons throughout the Woodward corridor for the upcoming construction impacts. The streetcar will serve Detroit's largest job centers and most visited destinations. It is expected to spur economic development and create jobs, and provide a foundation for improved public transit throughout the region, said M-1 RAIL President and Chief Executive Officer Matt Cullen in a prepared statement.
