Deutsche Bahn March 1 confirmed with Bombardier Transportation a $107 million order for 117 double-deck vehicles, to be built at Bombardier’s Görlitz, Germany, facility and used on regional lines in various German federal states.
The vehicles are designed with spacious compartment design, air conditioning, and optical and acoustic passenger information systems, and to reach speeds near 100 mph.
With this order, Deutsche Bahn is exercising the final portion of an option based on a 1996 contract for 250 vehicles. That order, combined with other options already exercised, results in 700 vehicles ordered.
Delivery is scheduled to begin in fourth-quarter 2001, and conclude by mid-2003.
