Washington State National Train Day Association has announced a "Discover Rail Line Communities" campaign aimed at raising awareness of the state's railway services.
The campaign is part of the association's effort to work with statewide communities situated along rail lines to improve rural and local rail service.
The association's "intent and purpose is to work with local government, community businesses, heritage passenger railways, national passenger rail systems, consumer rail advocacy groups and railroad companies to provide attention to national, rural and local railways services," according to a prepared statement.
The association has designated a number of rail lines as "active passenger services and non-passenger services." The designations are intended to clarify expectations for tourism and business opportunities in communities along the lines.
