Dougherty to oversee San Francisco agency's safety programs
advertisement
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) recently appointed James Dougherty chief safety officer and director of transportation safety.
The hiring is part of the SFMTA's agency-wide safety strategy, which also calls for issuing a request for proposals to retain external experts to review safety practices. In addition, the agency is working to improve post-accident disciplinary procedures, and re-certify and increase employee training.
Dougherty has 24 years' experience in transit safety, occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene and environmental protection. He has served as general manager of safety and security for the Charlotte Area Transit System since 2004 and previously held safety leadership positions at the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority.
