Rail News: Passenger Rail
Edmonton Transit System recently awarded a $3.5 million contract to Cubic Transportation Systems Inc. for a "proof-of-payment" fare collection system designed to be smart-card-ready for light-rail services.
Cubic plans to deliver ticket vending machines and a data acquisition system to the Edmonton, Alberta, system’s 10 light-rail stations in third-quarter 2003.
In January, Cubic received a $15.2 million contract from Metro Council of Minneapolis/St. Paul for light-rail system Metro Transit. Scheduled for completion by 2004, Metro Transit would represent the United States’ first mid-size market system to feature a "smart" regional ticketing system, according to Cubic.
