advertisement
On Friday, Amtrak and the city of Leavenworth, Wash., plan to launch daily Empire Builder service to and from the city’s new Icicle Station.
During the past two years, Amtrak, BNSF Railway Co. and the city have worked jointly to obtain state funding and return passenger-rail service to Leavenworth.
Westbound trains will depart Seattle’s King Street Station at 4:45 p.m. and arrive in Leavenworth about 8 p.m. Beginning Saturday, both eastbound and westbound trains will begin daily stops in Leavenworth, a city that each year attracts about 1.8 million tourists, who typically arrive and depart by car or bus.
