The Federal Railroad Administration will accept applications through June 30 for the new Intercity Passenger Rail State Capital Grant Program.
The administration will award $30 million in grants to help states fund improvements to intercity passenger-rail service. The grants require a 50/50 funding match.
The FRA will give “favorable consideration” to projects that demonstrate on-time performance standards of 80 percent or higher, reduce travel time, increase service frequency or improve service quality, the agency said.
The Bush Administration has proposed allocating $100 million for the program in fiscal-year 2009.
