Therese McMillan, deputy administrator of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), recently received the 2011 Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of California-Berkley’s College of Environmental Design.

The annual award recognizes alumni for "outstanding professional social, academic artistic or other achievements at the local, national or international level," FTA officials said in a prepared statement.

McMillan has been "instrumental in strengthening the FTA's civil rights and program oversight, and leading our effort to build smarter, more livable communities that better connect people with the places they need to go," FTA Administrator Peter Rogoff said.

Prior to her appointment as deputy administrator in July 2009, McMillan served for nine years as executive director for policy at the San Francisco Bay Area Region’s Metropolitan Transportation Commission, where she was responsible for strategic financial planning and outreach.

Meanwhile, Valley Metro Executive Director David Boggs received the 2010 WTS Metropolitan Phoenix Chapter Member of the Year award on March 5. WTS is an international organization dedicated to the advancement of women in transportation.

Boggs was recognized for his support of the Phoenix chapter's mentorship program and for encouraging active participation at all levels in the association, officials of the Phoenix transit agency said in a prepared statement.
