FTA issues grant for North Charleston intermodal facility
advertisement
The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) recently received a $6 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to help fund the construction of an intermodal facility in North Charleston, S.C.
The facility will replace a deteriorating Amtrak station and enable the city to combine several transportation modes — including intercity rail, intercity bus service and airport shuttle services — at one hub, according to CARTA. In addition, the facility would accommodate future commuter-rail services.
The grant is part of $776 million the U.S. Department of Transportation recently distributed to 152 projects through the FTA’s “State of Good Repair” discretionary grant program.
