The Federal Transit Administration yesterday announced the availability of $686 million in competitive grant funding for transit-rail agencies and commuter railroads to make their stations more convenient and accessible for people with disabilities and mobility issues.
Funding for the 2026 round of the All Stations Accessibility Program grants was designated in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021. Applications are due May 1.
Grant eligibility includes planning and capital projects that upgrade the accessibility of older transit-rail or commuter railroad systems for people with disabilities, according to the FTA notice of funding opportunity. Only legacy stations or key facilities that existed before the enactment of the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and have not yet been made accessible are eligible for funding.
Applicants must be able to provide a 20% match, FTA officials said. Instructions for applying and project eligibility details are available here.
