Former APTA chairman, hall of famer Alan Kiepper passes away

Alan Kiepper, a former American Public Transportation Association (APTA) chairman and member of APTA’s Hall of Fame, died Aug. 26. He was 81.

Kiepper served as APTA’s chair from 1990 to 1991. During a long transportation career, he served as general manager of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, GM of Houston’s Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County and president of MTA New York City Transit. He also was an executive vice president at Parsons Brinckerhoff and a consultant to ARINC.

In 1985, APTA honored Kiepper with the Jesse H. Haugh Award, which recognizes an outstanding public transportation manager. In 1986, he received the National Public Service Award from the National Academy of Public Administration and the American Society of Public Administration.
