Fort Worth Transportation Authority OKs some fare hikes

Yesterday, the Fort Worth Transportation Authority's (The T) board approved several changes to The T's fare system, including ticket prices for service on Trinity Railway Express (TRE) that take effect on Dec. 2.

The reduced regional TRE day pass, which was not increased when TRE fares were hiked in 2009 and 2010, now will increase 50 cents, The T officials said in a prepared statement. Prices will not change for the TRE full-fare regional day pass and the regional weekly pass, however.

The T's TRE fares will be the same as those recently approved by Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART). TRE regional fares include all TRE zones plus DART rail, and The T's and DART's local and Express bus service.

The board's decision followed an evaluation of staff proposals, as well as written and oral communications from public meetings, The T's website, a phone comment line and letters.

"To maintain current service levels and add the capacity to meet this area's growing transit needs, our fares need to keep pace with cost increases," said The T President Dick Ruddell.
