On Tuesday, the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority’s (GCRTA) board approved two construction contracts.
The board authorized a $150,000 contract to install upgraded Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant ramps and sidewalks at the Flats-East Bank Rapid Station on the Waterfront Line, the West 98-Cudell Rapid Station on the Red Line, the Parma Transit Center, the North Coast Rapid Station eastbound platform on the Waterfront Line, the West Third Street Rapid Station eastbound platform on the Waterfront Line and the Euclid Park-and-Ride lot. The bid is 49 percent lower than the engineer’s estimate.
The board also ratified General Manager Joe Calabrese’s award of a $180,000 contract to remove pre-cast walls at the Warrensville Center and Woodhill light-rail stations.
In addition, GCRTA announced it received a best-in-class award for senior management diversity from the Commission on Economic Inclusion for “building and maintaining a diverse and inclusive organization,” according to the agency.
The commission is a coalition of more than 100 Northeast Ohio employers committed to diversity.
GCRTA received the award for making “a conscious decision to create an inclusive senior management team," according to the agency. Thirty percent of the direct reports to the chief executive officer are minorities and 38 percent of those reporting to senior leaders one level below the CEO are minorities.
