GCRTA to use stimulus funds for new Brookpark Station

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) recently issued a request for proposals to design a new Brookpark Station. The $1.2 million project will be funded through American Recovery and Reinvestment Act dollars.

The original Brookpark Station opened 40 years ago as part of a four-mile Red Line extension to Hopkins International Airport. In 2003, GCRTA built an interim station at the site to make the facility ADA-accessible. In March 2005, the board approved a letter of intent to build a permanent ADA-compliant station at the 15.5-acre site.

GCRTA will reconstruct connections from the station entrances to the tracks and improve parking areas.

Agency officials are marketing the site — which features 12 acres of undeveloped land — to developers.
