GO Transit expands Lakeshore East line

GO Transit recently completed a series of improvements designed to relieve congestion and reduce delays on the Lakeshore East line, which runs from Union Station east to Oshawa.

As part of a $69.5 million expansion program, the agency added a third track on the main line between the Danforth and Scarborough stations, launched 12-car train operations, expanded several bridges and a pedestrian overpass, and completed tunnel and platform improvements at several stations. Work began in October 2005.

The project is part of the GO Transit Rail Improvement Program, a $1 billion expansion initiative funded by federal, provincial and local governments through the Canada Strategic Infrastructure Fund.
