GoTriangle has chosen a Gannett Fleming/WSP joint venture to serve as construction management consultant for the Durham-Orange light-rail project in North Carolina.

The 17.7-mile system will connect southwest Chapel Hill to eastern Durham and serve educational, medical and other key activity centers.

During the project's first phase, the Gannett Fleming/WSP team will provide constructability reviews, estimates and contract packaging, design and specification reviews. For the second phase, the joint venture will provide full construction management services, WSP officials said in a press release.

The financial value of the consultant agreement wasn't disclosed.

The $2.48 billion Durham-Orange project includes more than 10 miles of at-grade ballasted track, about 4 miles of elevated track and 3.5 miles of at-grade embedded track. An end-to-end trip on the line is expected to take 45 minutes.

In August 2017, GoTriangle tapped HDR Inc. to lead final design on the project.
