Yesterday, Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) officials released a statement expressing gratitude for a new agreement between New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and state lawmakers calling for the funding of the final three years of MTA’s five-year capital program.
The agreement, for a reported $13 billion, was reached over the weekend, according to local news reports.
"The MTA is grateful for Gov. Cuomo's leadership and commitment in recognizing the critical importance of funding mass transit, and in particular fully funding our current capital program,” MTA officials said in the prepared statement. “The capital program not only provides for continued investment in our network, but also creates tens of thousands of jobs and generates economic activity across the entire state.”
The MTA plans to use the funding to invest “in the future of our transportation network” and bring assets “up to a state of good repair,” they said.
