A grade-separated Caltrain crossing at East 25th Avenue in San Mateo, California, recently reopened to all modes of traffic.

The project involved the separation of road and tracks at East 25th Avenue, and construction of new east-west connections at 28th and 31st avenues. Earlier this year, the new East 28th Avenue opened between El Camino Real and South Delaware Street.

The grade separation eliminates the risk of pedestrians and vehicles accessing the tracks, prevents traffic bottlenecks and provides better access into the Bay Meadows neighborhood for emergency vehicles, Caltrain officials said in a news release.

The project also included Caltrain's new Hillsdale Station, which opened in April.
