Greater Cleveland RTA to mark opening of new Cedar-University station
The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) will dedicate the new Cedar-University Rapid Station on Aug. 28, marking the end of an $18.5 million reconstruction project.
Acting Federal Transit Administrator Therese McMillan is expected to attend, GCRTA officials said in a press release.
Formerly known as the University Circle Rapid Station, the station underwent the rebuilding project beginning in September 2012. The project was funded in part by a $10.5 million federal Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery II grant.
The station, which remained open during the construction project, is one of the highest transfer points in GCRTA's network. From the station, commuters can walk to major education and health-care facilities, take the Red Line rail service to downtown or to Hopkins International Airport, or transfer to a bus.
