Green Goat gets ready to ride commuter rails

The Green Goat™ emissions-reducing locomotive, which Union Pacific Railroad is using in a lease trial near Sacramento, Calif., soon might have a cousin entering the commuter-rail market. RailPower Technologies Corp. April 22 announced it had entered a limited sales and marketing agreement with Industrial Railcar Movers to market the emissions-reducing locomotive to the passenger rail market.
"The case-by-case agreement covers the transit market for the United States and Canada only," said RailPower Technologies President and Chief Executive Officer Gerard Koldyk in a prepared statement. "The agreement includes both the Green Goat for yard duties, as well as a special variant, which will be known as the Green Commuter."
Any potential agreements with transit authorities could take several years to consummate, says Koldyk. But IRM plans by late April to make a presentation to "a large transit company with specialty needs where pairs of Green Goats have been identified as a possible fit," he says.
