The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) has awarded an $875 million design-build contract for its airport guideway and stations to a joint venture comprising Granite Construction Co., Shimmick Construction Co. Inc., and Traylor Bros Inc.

The contract includes construction of 5.2 miles of elevated guideway between Aloha Stadium and the Middle Street Transit Center Station. The joint venture team also is responsible for construction of the Pearl Harbor Naval Base station, two stations near the Honolulu International Airport and the Middle Street station.

Construction is slated to start in spring 2017 and wrap up by 2021, according to a press release issued by Granite Construction.

The contract marks the third guideway project as part of HART's plan to build a 20-mile passenger-rail system in Honolulu.
