A consortium comprising Bombardier Transportation and ALSTOM LHB recently received a $61.2 million contract from Hamburg, Germany’s Hamburger Hochbahn AG to manufacture a sixth series of DT4 underground vehicles.
Under the pact, Bombardier-ALSTOM will produce 15 four-car trains. Bombardier will develop the electrical equipment, including traction, at its Mannheim facility in Germany. ALSTOM will produce the carbodies, bogies and brake systems in Salzgitter, Germany.
The consortium expects to deliver the new-generation trainsets between March 2004 and April 2005.
Since 1986, Hochbahn has ordered 126 DT4 underground trains. So far, 92 have been delivered.
