All work on the $338 million light-rail project in Norfolk, Va., should be finished by Aug. 1, Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) Chief Executive Officer Philip Shucet said in a prepared statement.
Shucet informed all contractors and workers that light rail should be in place by that date, but Aug. 1 is not the service’s opening date.
HRT has not yet announced an opening date for the 7.5-mile “The Tide” service, which will run from the Norfolk/Va. Beach line to Brambleton Avenue. However, HRT documents show the project is “99 percent complete” and that “all the measures for money and spending come to an end in August,” according to a Norfolk TV NewsChannel 3 report posted on the HRT website.
The project initially was slated for completion in May.
