Ridership on Amtrak’s Hiawatha service between Milwaukee and Chicago rose 4 percent to 823,163 in 2011 compared with 792,848 in 2010, Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) officials said in a prepared statement.
Ridership surpassed the 800,000 mark for the first time in the route’s history. In addition, ridership records were set in each month last year except for August, WisDOT officials said.
The Hiawatha service provides seven round trips Monday through Saturday and six round-trips on Sunday between Milwaukee and Chicago. The 86-mile route’s stops include the Milwaukee Intermodal Station; Gen. Mitchell International Airport; Sturtevant, Wis.; Glenview, Ill.; and Chicago’s Union Station.
