Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (GST) recently submitted a zoning application to San Jose, Calif., proposing to rezone its 332-acre headquarters property from industrial to mixed-use development.

GST’s master plan includes a transit-oriented village, offering industrial, retail and housing developments. The rezoned site — adjacent to Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority light rail and Caltrain commuter rail stations — would include 148 acres of industrial use, 147 acres of commercial and residential use, and 37 acres of roads.

"To remain competitive, we need to provide a workplace plan that supports our near-term and long-range business needs," said Hitachi GST Chief Operating Officer Glenn Larnerd in a prepared statement.
