The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas, (METRO) is organizing hearings and workshops in May and June for the public to assist in developing a regional transit plan.

The workshops will be the basis for a blueprint of long- and short-range transit projects for the next 25 years, agency officials said in a prepared statement. Project options that might be considered include light and commuter rail, streetcars and other programs that will connect the region.

“Every effort is being made to attain a total transit picture so that METRO can, when necessary, partner with other agencies to create the best possible results for the public,” officials said.

Meanwhile, the agency has rehired its former head of human resources, Raul Luzzaraga, as vice president of HR. He most recently worked for Team Industrial Services, where he organized compensation, other policies and procedures. Luzzaraga oversaw METRO’s HR department from 2004 to 2006, and also has worked for The Coca-Cola Co., 3Com and Nortel/Williams Communications.
