IEEE sets new battery sizing, train-control system standards
advertisement
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Standards Association (IEEE-SA) Standards Board recently approved new rail-transit standards for sizing nickel-cadmium batteries and user interfaces in train-control systems.
"Recommended Practice for Electrical Sizing of Nickel-Cadmium Batteries for Rail-Passenger Vehicles" (IEEE 1568 ™) describes methods to determine the electrical size of nickel-cadmium batteries used to back up low-voltage DC auxiliary power systems in passenger-rail vehicles. The standard considers such factors as cell number, rated capacity, maximum and minimum system voltage, correction factors and margins.
"Standard for User Interface Requirements in Communication-Based Train Control Systems (CBTC)" or IEEE 1474.2™ provides standards for CBTC user interfaces.
IEEE-SA develops standards for different industries to set specifications and procedures, ensuring that products and services are fit for their purpose and perform as intended.
