The Indiana Rail Road Co. (INRD) announced yesterday it will operate its Santa Train this year after canceling the event in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The train will make 12 stops throughout Indiana Dec. 3-5.
The schedule and format for the Santa Train stops will be modified as part of the event's health precautions, INRD officials said in a news release.
The Santa Train originated in 1989 as a volunteer project of INRD employees. The train traditionally visits more than 7,000 people during its three-day tour.
"It’s great that we are able to bring this tradition back," said Dewayne Swindall, INRD's president and chief executive officer. "The Santa Train means as much to INRD employees as it does the communities in which we operate."
