Keele becomes 53rd accessible TTC subway station

The Toronto Transit Commission's (TTC) Keele Station has become the 53rd to provide accessible access to the city's subway system.
The accessible station now features two new elevators that connect the street level to the subway platform level. Other improvements include four sets of accessible sliding doors, accessible fare gates, improved signage, wayfinding and security features, a reconstructed bus loop pavement and platform, and a new fire alarm system.
"[We're] working hard to make its vehicles, facilities and services more accessible for all passengers. By making Keele Station accessible, we are continuing the transformation toward becoming a barrier-free transit system," said TTC Chair Jaye Robinson in a news release.
Accessibility work continues at five additional stations. The TTC is scheduled to begin access construction at nine more stations later this year.
