Kowloon-Canton chooses Alcatel train control system
advertisement
Hong Kong’s Kowloon-Canton Railway Corp. (KCRC) June 20 awarded Alcatel Transport Automation a $17 million contract to supply a train control and signaling system for its East Rail Extension Line, Ma On Shan Rail.
Alcatel will design, manufacture and implement a train control system based on its SELTRAC® communications-based technology for automatic train control. (Alcatel already provided KCRC a similar system for use on its West Rail line currently under construction.)
When complete, the train control system will enable trains to travel up to 81 mph with two-minute headways.
The seven-mile line will serve nine stations between Tai Wai and Ma On Shan districts, extending the original East Rail line from Kowloon to Lo Wu, the gateway to mainland China. The extension is scheduled to be operational in 2004.
